A fully qualified state registered Occupational Therapist, Karen has over twenty years experience. Her specialty is around neurology, mainly Acquired and Traumatic Brain Injury; Upper Limb Rehabilitation; Specialist wheelchair and seating assessments, equipment and adaptations.

Karen works with a number of clients to provide unrivalled expertise in aiding clients and their extended support teams, family and solicitors – to understand the client’s medical condition, provide long term support and also manage their lifestyle adjustments.

She provides assessment and recommendation reports for rehabilitation, housing adaption reports, treatment and training for clients including normal movement rehabilitation, cognition, ADL and equipment, and education to family and carers.

Karen provides services to children, young people and adults of all ages. Her current clients include people who have suffered a Brain Injury or Cerebral Palsy, and she works with them enabling them to enhance their independence and improve their quality of life. This could be through providing equipment e.g. a powered wheelchair or suitable armchair or rehabilitation to improve their function in daily living activities.

She has worked with local authorities within Children’s Services and was responsible to provide all equipment for children in schools and homes, ensuring they are able to access education and participate in daily activities as well as providing advice to enhance the child’s development.

Karen works with case managers and local authorities to provide reports following an assessment to recommend housing adaptations that suit the clients needs now and in the immediate future. She has been involved in assessing and sourcing these adaptations and equipment within the private sector.

Karen provides cognitive behavioural programmes working alongside the client, their family, carers and other professionals aiming to manage the cognitive deficits or challenging behaviours appropriately to enable the client to have increased access and independence at home and in the local community.

Karen has specialised experience in posture and seating. She assesses a clients posture in wheelchairs and will provide options for the client on what products would provide an improved posture in the wheelchair. This includes considering pressure management, clients ability to control the wheelchair and the wheelbase itself.

Within this experience includes the ability to assist with sleep disorders, moving and handling, pain and fatigue management following injury.
