Jo Webb is an experienced Occupational Therapist who has joined KW Therapy Ltd with over 40 years’ experience. Jo has experience working in the NHS and Social Services, academia and private sector. Jo qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1986 with a diploma and continued to further her career education, gaining an MSc in 2009.
Jo has a wide range of experience including acute care, community and rehabilitation, moving and handling assessments and training, as well as assisted with PIP and attendance allowance applications. Whilst working within the NHS and Social Services, she conducted functional assessments for equipment and adaptations including both minor and major adaptations through the DFG process.
Whilst employed by The University of Salford between 1996 and 2021, Jo was the professional lead for Moving and Handling and Research within the Directorate of Occupational Therapy. Jo is passionate about innovation in healthcare education and has contributed significantly to moving and handling skills, particularly the promotion of proportionate handling techniques to promote independence, splinting, rehabilitation techniques and prevention of pressure injuries. She has led research projects resulting in numerous publications and conference presentations and developed patented solutions like the Klip2Lift (GB2432297) for safe patient handling
Jo has a varied and in-depth amount of experience in the OT field of physical rehabilitation and has also worked within the private sector and Litigation process assisting clients with catastrophic injury. As an OT, she assesses and identifies the requirements of continuing rehabilitation, using a holistic approach through consultation, liaison, observation and assessments. Jo approaches rehabilitation using a goal-directed, client centred focus to facilitate a client to establish the skills to maximise their independence and quality of life. Jo believes strongly in utilising a holistic approach to meet the client’s evolving needs considering physical, environmental, cognitive and psychological interventions to maximise the client’s functional independence.
Through this work, her interventions have included graded activities to improve independence in daily living both at home and in the community. Ensuring engagement in leisure and education / volunteering as a meaningful occupation to develop social skills, co-operation and communication skills is imperative in a client’s journey.
Jo has experience of utilising specific standardised assessments and tailored interventions for cognitive deficits and challenges following Brain Injury as part of cognitive rehabilitation programme including structured daily planning which is used as a strategy for both time and fatigue management.
Jo has experience of a range of equipment and adaptations to support a client’s functional independence and is competent in conducting thorough assessments and justification to meet clinical needs for ADL’s and postural management.
Jo enjoys providing bespoke and off the shelf splints to manage increased tone and support hand therapy strategies for orthopaedic or surgical interventions.
Throughout all of this, Jo has worked collaboratively with all professionals involved with the client’s journey including clinicians, case managers, legal team, care teams and statutory services including housing.
Jo is also an accredited practice supervisor thus being able to support occupational therapy students throughout their training and mentor them through their training.
She is committed to ongoing professional development and maintains an active portfolio including ongoing research and publications. Jo regularly attends training, workshops, and multidisciplinary learning opportunities to ensure her practice remains evidence-based and aligned with current developments in the profession. She enjoys contributing to the evidence base of occupational therapy intervention and regularly presents at conference to disseminate her research whilst continuing to work closely with colleagues from different disciplines to contribute to effective multidisciplinary teamwork and deliver high-quality, client-centred care.
