A Passion for Playing Pool

Enjoy playing pool?   Struggling to play due to injury?

We work on a daily basis to try to overcome the barriers that are preventing our clients from engaging in the activities that are important to them.  We know just how much this can improve their quality of life. For some clients, the activities that they once loved and enjoyed pre-injury are no longer accessible to them.  Their abilities change, whether that be physically or cognitively.

That’s where we come in! We understand the clients’ current capabilities and through our knowledge and experience, we’re able to identify suitable aids or adaptations.

Our client expressed to us that he used to love playing pool and he was one of the best players in his area.  Always loving to take on new people in his local bars, and win! Since his brain injury he has had a lot of difficulty with being able to use his hands functionally.  Contractures (shortening and hardening of muscles, tendons) have impacted his grip and control. The client was keen to find out if anything could help him return to the hobby that he loved! We reviewed this with him and identified what kind of adaptations/equipment could be put in place.  And found these amazing tools…

The Cannonaid is a small piece of adaptive equipment that acts as a stationary bridge.  It helps hold the pool cue in place, so the user can achieve a better aim and steadier shot.

The Active Hands gripping aid functions by enabling the user to hold things tightly and comfortably into their palm.  It maintains a better grip and can be used with a variety of equipment, such as the pool cue for our client.

And now thanks to the right aids and adaptations, our client will be able to work towards his goal of getting back into an activity he loves.  And of course beating his family, friends and rivals at pool along the way!
