Karen Wilding started KW Therapy Ltd in 2006 whilst she was working in the NHS as the Wheelchair Service Coordinator. Over time the Independent Occupational Therapy service developed and became a full time role for Karen.

Karen was inspired to become an Occupational Therapist after suffering an Incomplete Spinal Injury in 1987 when she was 13 years old. At the time she was unable to walk, dress, transfer and was a dependent wheelchair user. Over the years of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy rehabilitation she was able to mobilise with splints

and walking aids. Although Karen is now independent she still experiences physical difficulties resulting from the spinal injury but this does not hold her back in any way and lives life to the full.

As Karen was given the opportunity to reach her potential she wanted to help people do the same therefore Occupational Therapy was an obvious choice for a career. As a specialist OT she has expertise in many areas of practice but her personal experience greatly assists her in her role. Karen sees things from both sides – from the health professional role but also from the clients/families. She is able to give clients and families encouragement and hope from her personal experience that through hard work and rehabilitation things can change and realistic goals can be achieved.

KW Therapy Ltd is now a growing team and in 2018 moved into a new office building. We now have a team of 4 Occupational Therapists, 1 Occupational Therapy Assistant and 2 Office Staff.

Our specialties include Acquired and Traumatic Brain Injury, Neurological Conditions, Paediatrics, Upper Limb Rehabilitation, Hand Therapy, as well as Orthopaedic and Rheumatology conditions.

KW Therapy Ltd offers a client centered, dynamic, and holistic approach to assessment and treatment - working towards maximising individuals' potential both physically and functionally within the home and wider environment. We predominantly treat people in their own home as its the most familiar environment for enhancing skill levels although we also carry out assessments and treatments in schools, colleges, workplaces and any community setting of importance to the client. Working holistically to include the client, families and wider support teams we strive to offer the highest level of service to maximise an individual's independence in all aspects of the clients' lives.
